Welcome to Cottonwood Orthodontics!

COVID-19 Update

Dear Cottonwood Orthodontics Families,

We were excited to receive news from the New Mexico Department of Health last Friday that dental offices may start to re-open as part of the Phase 1 process. This will allow us to see patients at 50% capacity for the first few weeks, to comply with the new guidelines and social distancing. Our official start date is this Friday, May 15th.

We have already carefully reviewed all patient records and prior appointments, and we will be scheduling all patients based on your last appointment and/or the urgency of your visit. We thank you for your patience in advance, as every patient is due for an adjustment after being closed for 8 weeks. We assure you that we will call you to schedule an appointment ASAP, but don’t hesitate to call us if you have concerns, questions, or an urgent matter.

Things may look and feel a little bit different for the next few months. Don’t worry, Cottonwood Orthodontics has always been very serious about preventing the spread of germs and disease. Since the beginning, the safety of patients and staff members has always been of utmost importance.

Some of the new protocols, as per CDC and ADA recommendations, will include a thorough health screening of all staff and patients upon arrival, some additional PPE measures for staff depending on the type of procedure, and new safety measures for each patient entering our practice. We will be asking you to call upon arrival for a health screening while you wait in your car, wear a face covering upon entering the building, enter the building alone (if needed, a parent or guardian may accompany a minor), and to wash or sanitize your hands upon entering the building. Prevention will begin with a simple health screening when we call to schedule your appointment. Please help us move through this complex process by alerting us of any symptoms, health issues, or broken or loose brackets/appliances during the initial scheduling/screening call.

The majority of the procedures we perform will look and feel the same as prior to Covid-19, as we designed Cottonwood Orthodontics with patient safety and privacy in mind. That is why we already have privacy partitions in between patient chairs, which are more than 6 feet apart. Dr. T, since the beginning, has followed strict Universal Precautions to prevent the spread of germs and disease by using masks, glasses, gloves, a strict sterilization process, as well as clean and disinfected environmental surfaces. The main difference in the clinic will be noticed during aerosol generating procedures (anything that can produce airborne particles), including even simple procedures such as fixing a broken bracket. Such procedures will need special accommodations, specifically longer appointment times, additional PPE, and an enclosed room.
We really appreciate your patience, help, and understanding through this time of crisis. We are blessed to have you as patients and be part of this wonderful community!

Sincerely,
Dr. T. and the CWO Team
